The West Cork Arts Centre runs some great programmes and events for children and families. There is the regular ‘Discovery Box’ which helps parents and children engage with current exhibitions through play. There is a Discovery box event happening this Saturday (the 25th of April) from 11am. Details below. Discovery Box is a free gallery resource for parents and carers to use with their young children in the gallery to encourage engagement with the artwork. West Cork Arts Centre commissions guest artists to develop explorations for children and families to investigate and respond to exhibitions in the gallery using a variety of tools, art materials and information sheets . Saturday 21 March – Saturday 2 May Gallery 2 ‘Disconnect’ By Susan Montgomery Susan will facilitate a Discovery Box workshop on Saturday 25 April, 11am for families with small children cost € 7. Papier-mâché Easter Egg Craft This is a good way of keeping children occupied over Easter – it can be a bit messy and hands on, but it’s also good fun and the children love it…and there’s no chocolate sugar rush to deal with! Here’s how to make the eggs. Supplies and Directions: 12 papier-mâché eggs A rainbow of tissue paper (cut into small squares) The Sunday Comics (cut into small squares) Mod Podge, or glue Brushes Scissors Using the brush, spread a small amount of Mod Podge onto an egg. Place a piece of tissue paper or newspaper over the glue and press it down with the brush. Continue working this way until the entire egg is covered in paper. Place the eggs on a parchment lined cookie rack to dry. More detailed info...
